“I’m not saying you… have to fix anything. But make sure you talk to him soon.”
Tim was half in uniform; he had on his red chest piece and tights, but nothing on his feet or face. His hair waved on his head, modern and handsome. His young, comfortable face lay pleasantly, his skin smooth and soft to see and to touch. He was putting on his clothes earlier, when he decided to stop and walk into the common room to get something to drink when he saw Damian in the corner. He stopped, thinking back about the moment shared between the younger Robin and Super Boy last week, after they got rescued from Joker being a prick.
He knows Damian has been acting differently since and felt very confident as to why. Tim knows something about young relationships and not understanding themselves. So when he watched Jon and Damian from a short distance the other day, and hearing about what Damian told him… he knows there’s something special between them. He didn’t want Damian to make the same mistakes he might have when younger. Tim Drake saw this as an opportunity for the two of them. A way to get along. His expression softened as he leaned back, his body taut and flexible, waiting ro Damian to respond.
After a minute, Damian replied “It’s none of your business.”
Tim expected this, not surprised to see Damian be visibly annoyed that he was talking about this without it really being brought up. Tim was at the end of his short, well-intended parting of knowledge as he stood between Damian and the exit. Tim wasn’t forcing him to stay in, but Damian had to walk past Tim to leave.
Tim grimaced, rubbing his hair and thinking back on how he felt when he was younger. When he and his best friend fought, and he didn’t understand how to make things right again. The young Tim Drake knew this required a delicate touch.
He read the room, sensing the tension and moved from the exit. In as casual a look he can have in half costume, feeling somewhat naked but open. He approached Damian, who had his forearms against a chair and sighed loudly as he saw Tim approach. Tim understood Damian’s hesitation but also understood why adults sometimes did things that bothered kids. Kids don’t always know what they need.
“Sorry. But, just make sure you think about this and… ha.” Tim leaned back against the wall with his shoulders, arms crossed against his chest and was as comfortable as he looked. Being in tights was second nature to Drake. “I know it sounds weird, but I’m happy for you Damian. Not because of everything that happened… but, because it did happen and who it happened with. This is good for you. You get me?”
